Have you ever wished to grow your own food, but haven’t because you lack the space? Perhaps you live in a city and your only private outdoor space is your apartment balcony. Or maybe your backyard is too small to fit a productive garden bed. Lack of space is a common inhibitor to organic gardening for many people living in urbanized societies.

I know from first hand experience how disappointing it feels to not be able to grow my own food because of my small living space. However, I am here to say that it is possible (and easier than you might think) to grow your own vegetables despite lack of space. The key to doing this is through container gardening. In the right circumstances many vegetables can grow well in pots.

When it comes to growing produce in containers there lie unique challenges that also cause beginner gardeners to struggle and eventually quit. Water, soil, pests, and sun exposure problems (to name a few) can be intensified in pots, which often leaves urban gardeners discouraged with their unhealthy and unproductive plants. I get it! In my container gardening endeavors I too have experienced frustration within each of these arenas. That is, until I learned how to care for crops in containers.

The key to growing vegetables in containers lies in choosing the right pots, the right soil medium, and the right plants for your space. In the subsequent chapters, I'll cover exactly what you need to know to begin and successfully maintain your patio kitchen garden.

The only thing holding you back from cultivating your very own organic food are a few fundamental container gardening techniques. In this ebook, you’ll learn those fundamentals, and as a result you’ll experience the joy and fulfillment of cultivating an abundant edible garden.
